Defensive Skills

This program will focus on teaching fundamental defensive skills including angling, stick on puck, containing, board control, box-outs, staying above, and more. These skills are applicable to both forward and defense positions, this is not a defense only camp. As hockey skill development continues to promote the advancement of technical skills in the areas of skating, shooting, and puck handling, we have noticed a growing need to teach defensive skills alongside the growing offensive threats within the game. This program will teach players not just physical ‘skills’, but also concepts as they relate to defensive positioning and thinking within the game of hockey. Everyone wants to play with the puck and learning how to effectively defend in all areas of the rink is the first step in getting the puck back on your team's stick.

Mobility and Modern Skating Techniques

This 4-week skating program will focus on developing the mobility and technique necessary to skate the modern game. As skating continues to evolve, players are continuously challenged to work on concepts such as posture, ankle flexion, and balance. Coaches will break down a series of modern skating techniques such as lateral crossovers, jam-turns, and 10-2’s detailing the ways in-which effective skaters can use these movements to their competitive advantage. The program will progress from basic breakdowns into situation-based drills providing each player with the opportunity to explore each movement and their applications.
